बृहन्महाराष्ट्र अधिवेशन - शिकागो २०११ ची सल्लागार समिती (Board of Advisors) अधिवेशनाच्या संकेत स्थळावर आपले हार्दिक स्वागत करीत आहे. उत्तर अमेरिकेतल्या मराठी बांधवांनी हे अधिवेशन भरविण्याची आम्हाला संधी दिल्याबद्दल शिकागोवासीय आपले ऋणी आहेत. सत्तावीस वर्षांपूर्वी १९८४ साली पहिले अधिवेशन यशस्वी करून शिकागोत ह्या उपक्रमाची पायाभरणी झाली. दर दोन वर्षांनी मोठ्या उत्साहात होणाऱ्या ह्या भव्य सोहोळ्यामुळे उत्तर अमेरिकेतील मराठी समाज एकत्र आला आणि आता तर जगभर पसरलेल्या मराठीजनांना लाभलेले एक उत्तम व्यासपीठ म्हणूनच ह्या अधिवेशनाकडे बघितले जाते. सल्लागार समितीच्या सर्व सदस्यांनी वेळोवेळी सामाजिक आणि सांस्कृतिक उपक्रमांतून महाराष्ट्र मंडळ, शिकागोचे नेतृत्व केले आहे. विशेष आनंद वाटतो की पहिल्या अधिवेशनाचे नेतृत्व केलेली काही मंडळी या समितीची सदस्य आहेत. आमच्या समितीच्या कार्याचे स्वरूप सर्वसाधारणपणे अधिवेशनाच्या कामाचा आढावा घेणे, विविध समितींच्या कामात सुसूत्रता आणणे, जरूर पडली तर सल्ला देणे आणि अडचणी आल्यास एकदिलाने त्यातून मार्ग काढणे असे आहे.
२०११ चे अधिवेशन इथे भरवण्याची निर्णय प्रक्रिया सुरु असताना आर्थिक मंदी आणि बेरोजगारीचे सावट समोर उभे होते त्यामुळे सर्वांचीच मने हे धाडस करण्यास कचरत होती. विशेषतः निधी-संकलन आणि स्वयंसेवक नोंदणी ही आव्हाने समोर दिसत होती. पण अशावेळी माघार घेईल तर तो मराठी माणूसच नव्हे. शिकागोकारांनी जाणीवपूर्वक हे आव्हान स्वीकारले आणि नितीन जोशी आणि त्यांचे असंख्य सहकारी यांची फौज दुप्पट उत्साहाने कामाला लागली. आज शिकागो परिसरातल्या मराठी बांधवांत एक नवीन चैतन्य संचारलय. एकता आणि सहकाराची भावना चांगलीच बळकट झाली आहे. व्यक्तिगत देणग्यांचा ओघही सुरु झालाय आणि त्याचबरोबर दोनशेच्यावर स्वयंसेवक आणि त्यांचे कुटुंबीय अधिवेशनाच्या कामासाठी कटीबद्ध झाले आहेत.
सल्लागार समितीला कार्याची गती आणि आवाका पाहून रास्त अभिमान वाटतो आहे. परंतु अनेक आव्हाने आपल्यापुढे उभी आहेत. आपण उत्त्तर अमेरिकेतले रसिक मराठी जन अनुभवी आहात. अनेक अधिवेशने, संमेलने आपण यशस्वी केली आहेत. आम्हाला हवे आहेत आपले विचार, आपल्या सूचना आणि अनुभवाचे बोल. तसेच आपल्या सहकाराची आणि त्याचबरोबर सहभागाची अपेक्षाही बाळगतो, नव्हे तशी खात्रीच आहे. आम्ही आपल्या सर्वांना आश्वासन देतो की शिकागोचे अधिवेशन ही एक अविस्मरणीय आनंदयात्रा असेल. कालच्या स्मृतींना उजाळा दिला जाईल आणि त्यातच उद्याच्या स्वप्नपूर्तीचा आशावाद असेल. मंडळी मार्क ट्वेन सांगूनच गेलाय, "आनंद, उल्हास जितका सर्वत्र उधळाल, तेवढा तो वृद्धिंगत होत जातो.
Board of Advisors (BOA)
The Board of Advisors (BOA) of BMM 2011 Chicago convention welcomes you to our webpage. It is a proud moment for Chicagoans to organize this convention. Maharashtra Mandal Chicago was the pioneer in hosting the first ever BMM convention in 1984. That convention sparked the unification of Maharashtrians across North America. Twenty-seven years later, it is now our privilege to take this convention to a global level.
The members of the BOA are closely associated with Maharashtra Mandal Chicago in leadership roles and have been involved in social, cultural and community activities. We are proud to have eight distinguished members including some who actively organized the first BMM convention. Our role is to oversee convention activities and offer advice and consultation on broad issues as well as to resolve conflicts when required.
When Maharashtra Mandal, Chicago was contemplating to host the BMM 2011 convention, the community was a little skeptical owing to economic downturn and job losses. The two main concerns were fundraising and volunteer pool availability. However, the ever enduring enthusiasm of Chicagoans prevailed. A team lead by Niteen Joshi stepped up to accept the challenge. Ever since, there is something fresh in the air. The spirit, creativity and “can-do” attitude are reaching new highs every day. People have a shared goal and feeling of unity. As a result, over two hundred people have volunteered and individual donors have started contributing generously.
BOA is proud of the great progress being made since accepting the bid. However, many challenges lie ahead. We urge you to attend the convention in large numbers and also help our fundraising efforts. As many of you have attended previous conventions, we welcome your feedback regarding the "dos and don’ts" as well as the "lessons learned".
We hope the BMM 2011 convention will be a time to celebrate the memories of yesterday, joys of today and the hopes of tomorrow.
