An up-close and personal experience with Madhavan of "Three Idiots" fame. You will hear from Madhavan his journey through the film industry and behind the scene insights. Plenty of opportunities for pictures, autographs with your favorite Idiot! Date: February 13th, 2010 Tickets: It’s an extreme pleasure to announce that superstar R. Madhavan of “Three Idiots” fame will be in Chicago to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. He wants the residents of Chicago-land to join him on Saturday, Feb 13th, 2010 at the Meadows Club, 2950 W Golf Rd, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008 between 1.30pm to 4.30pm. During the fund-raising event, Maddy will walk us through his career, share interesting the behind the scenes moments and showcase his versatile personality. The audience will also get an opportunity to meet their heartthrob up close and personal, ask him questions and take pictures and autographs. Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat.org) is a non-profit global organization established in 1976 with a mission to “eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action”.They have built over 350,000 homes all over the global and created housing for over 1.75 million people. Several prominent international and national personalities have joined hands together to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. One of enthusiastic supporter and ambassador for this organization is India’s superstar R. Madhavan. R. Madhavan, popularly called as Maddy is multifaceted personality. As a boy, he was keen on joining the defense establishment and so he joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC). He went on to become the national winner winning the BEST Cadet competition. Maddy was selected to represent India in England as a Junior Defense Ambassador in England. Here, he trained with the Royal Army, Navy and Air Force during his tenure. Maddy enrolled for the National Public speaking competition organized by the Indian Junior Chambers. He went on to win the National Gold Medal in Public Speaking. As a result of this victory, Maddy was selected to represent India at the Young Businessman’s Conference in Japan in 1992. Interestingly, Maddy began to conduct courses in public speaking, interviews and group discussion techniques and soon earned a reputation of being highly effective coach. Here one of his students suggested that he should give a shot for a modeling career. Encouraged by his students, Maddy entered a fashion/ model hunt and emerged as a finalist in the event. He thus was discovered by a director of soap operas on TV and was immediately offered a role in Banegi Apni Baat. The rest as they say is history. Several soap operas, national and international modeling assignments followed. Maddy landed a lifetime opportunity when renowned director Mani Ratnam offered him a role in “Alaipayuthey” (2002) which turned out to be a blockbuster and cult film of its times. Mani Ratnam went on to do the next five films of his, with Madhavan as his lead, right up till his recent flick Guru (2007) with Abhishiek Bachchan and Aishwariya Rai. Maddy has the distinction of being the only actor that Mani Ratnam has repeated in five films. Maddy has acted in super successful Bollywood films, 13 B (2009), Mumbai Meri Jaan (2008), Guru (2007), Rang De Basanti (2006), Ramji Londonwale (2005), Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaa r(2004), Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein (2003). His lastest blockbuster is ‘3 Idiots’, which has grossed INR 375 crores worldwide making it Bollywood’s biggest hit. As an actor, Madhavan is known for his thorough professionalism and accepted as an extremely versatile actor Maddy has the distinction of having worked with India’s leading directors (Mani Ratnam, K.Balachandar, Rakesh Mehra, Rajkumar Hirani, Aamir Khan, Kamal Hassan to name a few) and production houses. The music composer for six of his films has been the double Oscar winner A.R Rehman.
